Over nine days, a group of enthusiastic cyclists embarked on a three-country tour through Austria, Slovenia, and Italy. Scenic routes, thrilling climbs, and serene lakeside trails made this tour an inspiring journey for all involved. Here’s a glimpse into the highlights of this epic adventure.

Starting Strong in Slovenia

The journey began in the charming alpine town of Kranjska Gora. One of the initial rides took the group to the iconic Lake Bled, a route that showcased Slovenia’s natural beauty. Riders pedaled past emerald-green forests, gliding alongside pristine streams, before reaching the lake. The serene waters, overlooked by a medieval castle perched on a cliff, were a stunning backdrop for a well-earned break.

Another highlight in Slovenia was a challenging and rewarding route: the Vrsic-Predil loop. With its numerous switchbacks, Vrsic Pass tested legs and lungs alike, but the sweeping views of the Julian Alps made every pedal stroke worthwhile. On the descent, the group crossed into Italy, where the rugged beauty of the Predil Pass added another layer of adventure.

The transition to Austria included a ride to Velden, via the steep gradients of the Wurzen Pass. Though demanding, the journey’s end by the tranquil shores of Lake Worthersee was a luxurious reward. Here, the cyclists settled into a lakeside retreat, ready for their next set of explorations.

Austrian Lakes and Leisure

The next phase of the journey was dedicated to exploring Austria’s lakes. One day featured a loop around Worthersee and the smaller lakes to the north, weaving through picturesque villages and verdant landscapes. Each turn of the wheel revealed postcard-perfect views of calm waters framed by rolling hills.

Another day offered a chance to rest or indulge in a relaxed ride around Worthersee. For those who chose to ride, the path provided a gentle pace with plenty of opportunities to stop for a coffee or a dip in the lake. Luxurious amenities at the lakeside retreat, including a spa, offered the perfect way to recharge before the next leg of the journey.

Scaling Peaks in Lienz

The cycling journey continued with a ride to Lienz, taking a scenic mountain route. Winding roads and stunning alpine vistas defined this day, with the group arriving at an elegant hotel in the heart of the mountains. Another ride featured a loop through rolling terrain and challenging climbs near Kartitsch and Gailbergsattel. Each ascent was rewarded with exhilarating descents and sweeping views of the surrounding peaks.

The crown jewel of the tour was the ascent to Grossglockner. Known as one of Europe’s most iconic climbs, this route tested every cyclist’s mettle. The serpentine road led the group up to jaw-dropping alpine views, where snow-capped peaks stood in stark contrast to lush green valleys. It was a fitting climax to a week of unforgettable rides.

Reflections and Farewell

As the group wrapped up their adventure in Lienz, there was a shared sense of accomplishment and camaraderie. Over the course of the tour, they’d traversed three countries, conquered iconic climbs, and soaked in some of Europe’s most breathtaking landscapes.
