In June 2022 we had the pleasure of hosting a private cycling trip in Mallorca for a group of friends. They were coming to Mallorca for a wedding and asked us to put together a three-day tour for a small group of six riders, followed by a big group ride on the fourth day with other wedding guests. We were happy to oblige, and the group had a fantastic time enjoying some of the most popular cycling routes on the island.
♦ Date: June 17-20, 2022 ♦ Start / Finish: Palma de Mallorca airport ♦ Distance – 300 km (190 miles) / Elevation gain – 7,000 m (22,000 ft) ♦ 4-day / 3-night Guided and SAG van-supported private Mallorca cycling trip ♦ One riding group guided by an HC Ride Leader and supported by an HC SAG van ♦ On-road snacks, water and electrolyte drinks ♦ Excellent Sarto rental bikes with delivery and pick-up at accommodation ♦ Scenic riding through the Tramuntana mountain range – climb up to Tunel de Monaber (Puig Major), enjoy the descent to the port town of Sa Colobra, and climb back up to Coll des Reis. Enjoy scenic riding along the west coast of Mallorca through UNESCO World Heritage site, visiting villas of Soller, Deia, Banlyalbufar, Estellencs, Andratx, and Es Capdella. Visit the monastery hill of Sant Salvador opening an amazing view to the east of the island. ♦ All the group had to do is arrive at the Palma de Mallorca International airport and they were off – HC Bike Tours team took care of the rest – planned the routes, arranged rental bikes, and made all the necessary arrangements for the group to enjoy fun and hustle free cycling holiday in Mallorca.
To start off the tour, we kept things easy and took a shorter route, as the guests had just arrived from overseas. Although no route is very easy if you’re staying Soller or Port de Soller – every way you go it’s up. We started with a climb toward the town of Deia. Had a coffee stop in Valldemossa, enjoyed the wide and fast descent after that, and finished the day going over Coll de Soller.
We began the day with a coffee stop to give us a boost for the ride ahead, which started with a short false flat warm-up before tackling the longest climb in Mallorca – the 14 km climb up to Tunel de Monaber also known as Puig Major. The group was in high spirits, fueled by caffeine, and they enjoyed the winding road up to the tunnel. At the tunnel, we had a snack stop featuring the Mallorceen Duquesa – a semi-sweet cheesecake that’s one of our favorite mid-ride treats. From there, we rode along the water reservoir towards the aqueduct, before turning towards Sa Colobra. The climb back from Sa Colobra was brutal due to the heat, but our guests appreciated our well-equipped support vehicle with cooled drinks and ice cubes available to help beat the heat.
For the third day, we rode along the coast from Soller to Andaratx, taking in the stunning views and rolling hills on Ma10 road. After that, the group turned inland through Es Capdella and over Coll de sa Creu, finishing just outside of Palma. From there, everyone hopped in our support vehicle and was transferred to accommodations outside of Campos.
On the fourth and final day, our small group of six was joined by another 15 people who were in Mallorca for the wedding. Our destination was the Puig de Sant Salvador – a monastery hill in the east of the island known for its windy road and beautiful views. It was another hot day, so our support vehicle was stocked up with ice, water, and electrolyte drinks to keep the large group hydrated. We took multiple breaks to make sure everyone was able to stay cool, and at the top of Sant Salvador, we had a longer stop with local pastries, salted chips, fresh fruit, and refrigerated drinks before returning to Campos.
All in all, it was a fantastic Tour de Mallorca cycling trip, and we’re already looking forward to hosting more custom cycling trips in the future.
