Join us as we recount the extraordinary 10-day cycling tour through Slovenia with a spirited group of friends from Northern California. These friends, aged in their 60s to 80s, embarked on a journey filled with picturesque landscapes, gourmet experiences, and unforgettable memories.
Our Slovenia bike trip commenced with a warm welcome at the Ljubljana Airport. The first day was reserved for sightseeing in Slovenia’s charming capital, Ljubljana, offering our guests a taste of the country’s rich history and culture.
On the first official riding day of the trip, we started with fitting bikes, including e-road bikes for those who preferred pedal assist for challenging roads ahead. Our warm-up ride took us through the neat and peaceful outskirts of Ljubljana, setting the pace for the adventure ahead.
On our first riding day we rode past the idyllic town of Bled, complete with a lap around Lake Bled. Some guests even enjoyed a refreshing swim in the lake. We ended the day in the ski resort town of Kranjska Gora.
Day three was a highlight as we ascended the highest pass in Slovenia – Vršič Pass, known for its cobblestone turns. The descent led us to the town of Bovec, where we rested the next day, enjoying a cable car ride to a ski station at 2200 meters and an easy hike with stunning views.
Our fifth day took us along the Soča River to Solkan, favouring quieter roads. From Solkan we made a turn inland to towards town of Komen, where we stayed in a hotel with a Michelin-starred restaurant, a culinary highlight of our trip and another amazing expression of Slovenian hospitality.
On the seventh day, we cycled towards the Adriatic, concluding in the beach town of Portorož. We spent a day off the bikes, basking in the warm September sunshine and enjoying the beach and outdoor salt water pool.
The penultimate riding day featured a loop from Portorož, with breathtaking views of the sea and easy lunch in the medieval port town of Piran, known for it’s narrow streets.
Every evening we dined in different restaurants but for the final dinner we returned to a place thar can’t be described anything else as culinary and hospitality gem that left as in aw two nights in a row.
On the final day, we drove our guests to Trieste, Italy. While some extended their stay to explore Trieste, others departed for their homes, hopefully carrying with them memories of a lifetime.
This trip wasn’t just about cycling; it was about friendship, exploration, and experiencing Slovenia’s beauty. At HC Bike Tours, we’re honoured to have facilitated this journey and look forward to guiding more adventurers through the gems of Europe.
